3 year old Smarty-pants

Writer: Catherine Garduno RamirezCatherine Garduno Ramirez

So this is just too good not to share. I can home from work this last Tuesday and heard my mother-in-law telling my two older boys to clean up their toys. (On a side note: my MIL lives with us and helps watch the boys when my hubby and I have to work). So they continue to run around with their cars. I proceed to tell them that they need to listen to their grandma and out their toys away. My oldest son “M” comes barreling down the hallway with a big fire truck. I stop him and ask him to put the toys away. He looks at me and says “I don’t see any toys.”. Me: I mean the toy in your hand

M: *proceeds to look at empty hand* I don’t see a toy in my hand

Me: *rolls eyes* Don’t be a smart-ale. I mean the toy in your other hand

And here is where the realization of my son’s true intelligence came into glaring view...

M: *switches very large toy from right hand to left hand; then looks at now empty right hand* I don’t see a toy in my other hand

Me: *utterly fails to maintain composure and must turn away to laugh*. Of course I made sure he did out the toys away, but where did that come from???

When did my 3 year old get so smart that he figured out how to try and dodge a direction instruction through a loophole. So what does this say about the future? That I need to ask the Lord to help me guide this spit-fire spirit for His good. Anyone else have some similar stories to share?

I totally know the feeling. We have a few of these quick witted kids in our family. I’m so thankful the Lord made them all different! He can teach us so much through our children if we let Him. And yes, prayer is key!!
